VSSD College organised an inspiring Orientation Programme for the B.Ed. Programme on August 11, 2026, welcoming aspiring educators into a journey that goes beyond academic qualifications towards professional excellence, innovation and meaningful social contribution. The programme was convened and anchored by Dr. Akash Verma and witnessed the gracious presence of Chief Guest Dr. Tanuja Bhatt, Prof. Neeru Tandon, Principal, VSSD College, Prof. Abha Sharma, HOD, B.Ed. Department, and several distinguished faculty members and academic functionaries.
The programme commenced with the invocation of Goddess Saraswati, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the triumph of knowledge over ignorance. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed and felicitated with mementos.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof . Abha Sharma, HOD , B.Ed. Department, who highlighted the significance of the B.Ed. programme in preparing competent, reflective and responsible educators. She emphasised that teacher education must equip future teachers not only with subject knowledge but also with the pedagogical understanding and professional values required to nurture young minds.
This was followed by an insightful address by Prof. Neeru Tandon, Principal, VSSD College. She emphasised that a teacher must never stop learning, particularly in a rapidly changing educational landscape. She stressed that teachers must continuously evolve to understand and respond to the diverse needs of learners. The Principal also highlighted the college's range of certificate courses aimed at the holistic development of students, including the recently introduced Artificial Intelligence course, designed to strengthen skills relevant to the demands of the 21st century.
A key highlight of the orientation was the thought-provoking session by Chief Guest Dr. Tanuja Bhatt, who offered an engaging perspective on the changing role of teachers and the purpose of professional teacher education. She emphasised that B.Ed. and M.Ed. are not merely degrees but professional preparation programmes that nurture knowledge, pedagogical competence, communication skills, professional ethics, reflective thinking, digital competence, classroom-management skills, inclusive attitudes and leadership qualities.
Drawing attention to the 21st-century classroom, Dr. Bhatt highlighted the importance of the 4Cs—Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration. She explained that today's teachers must encourage learners to question, analyse and evaluate; imagine, innovate and create; express, listen and discuss; and cooperate, share and learn together. She also underlined the growing importance of problem-solving, digital literacy and emotional intelligence in contemporary education.
In an especially reflective segment, the aspiring teachers were invited to consider the question, “Why did you choose B.Ed. or M.Ed.?” The discussion encouraged students to reflect on their personal motivation for entering the teaching profession—whether driven by a passion for teaching, an interest in children, social contribution, career aspirations, higher education, personal interest or the desire to create a meaningful impact.
The session was followed by a detailed presentation by Dr . Rambabu on the structure, academic framework and key components of the two-year B.Ed. programme, giving students a clear understanding of their forthcoming academic journey and professional preparation. The orientation also provided students with valuable information about opportunities available within the college. Dr. Ajit Kumar, DSW and Scholarship In-charge, acquainted the students with the various scholarship opportunities and provisions available to eligible students, helping them become aware of the support mechanisms available to them during their academic journey.
Further, Mr . Pratyush Chandra , who heads the various certificate courses at the college, highlighted the importance of skill-based learning and encouraged students to make meaningful use of the additional courses offered for their overall professional development.
The presence of Proctor Dr. Vikas Gangwar , along with other distinguished faculty members, added to the academic significance of the programme.
The event provided the new B.Ed. students with an opportunity to interact with senior academicians and gain a broader perspective on their responsibilities as future educators.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr . Vikash Singh , who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Principal, HOD, faculty members, distinguished guests and students for making the orientation programme meaningful and memorable.
The orientation culminated with a powerful message for the aspiring educators: “You are not merely preparing for an examination; you are preparing for a profession.” The programme thus marked not merely the beginning of a two-year academic course, but the first step towards becoming empathetic, innovative, reflective and future-ready educators capable of shaping the classrooms—and the society—of tomorrow.
