National Service Scheme (NSS) – V.S.S.D. College, Kanpur
1. About NSS
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Launched in 1969, the National Service Scheme (NSS) is a centrally sponsored program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. It is designed to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. With over 4 million volunteers across the country, NSS fosters a sense of social responsibility, national integration, and community engagement among the youth.
The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You,” reflects the spirit of selfless service and the idea of placing the interests of the community above individual pursuits. The program provides an ideal platform for students to contribute meaningfully to society while enhancing their own leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
